Profilo:

Tiziano Cattaneo is researcher of architectural design at University of Pavia and is the P.I. of the China Lab. Since 2012 Tiziano works in-between the Italian and Chinese context in both research and education. His research focuses on architectural design as a process to create and regenerate environments and systems for sustainable development addressing contemporary conditions such as climate change, globalization, digitalization and urbanization..Operating on several scales, the Lab develops methods to embed architectural experimentation and environmental visions into the design of landscapes, cities, and urban and rural spaces to increase the resilience of local communities.
As a Chair Professor under the Shanghai 1000 Talent Plan at Tongji University for the last three years, he has been leading research collaborating on a number of projects with institutions and organizations in Europe, Mexico and China on the topics of shared landscape, urban resilience and sustainable tourism.

Impact case studies/Key research (in ottica VQR):

Participation as Academic coordinator of the project “Open Your Space: Design intervention in Siping community” which is a pilot project launched in 2015 by a cooperation between Tongji University and Siping sub-district office Department of Party and Government Affairs, Department of Culture.
After 5 editions the project became an annual event containing physical spaces with social and cultural significance. The project strives to be a sociocultural framework that represents a special design attitude for collective space and public activities
The project engaged an urban district of 100.000 inhabitants through the realization of fifteen site-specific projects and more than sixty micro design interventions spread across outdoor public space within the urban center of Siping community, by providing perspectives on how design activism and placemaking approach inspires people to create and improve their public places.
